This idea for this quilt was born from my first steps into embroidery ... I started with the circles. And please don't ask me why - when I learnt about the theme for the challenge "Patchwork and embroidery", the movie "Wargames" came to my mind. Do you remember that movie? The scene at the end, when the computer "Joshua" plays TicTacToe? Joshua comes to the conclusion: "A strange game - the only winning move is not to play". The design of this quilt was done on paper - which is completely unusual for me. In a way, I liked working that way ;-)) The circles and crosses are hand-stitched, the letters are painted, than embroidered by machine. I quilted mostly on the white lines. The binding is done with a red fabric. And now? Now I can hardly wait to see my quilt in the exhibition !! Saturday - Mainquiltfestival, here I come !!!

Und ich habe keine Ahnung, warum - aber als das Thema "Patchwork und Stickerei" bekannt gegeben wurde, fiel mir der Film "Wargames" ein. Erinnert ihr euch an den Film? an die Szene ziemlich am Ende, da spielt der Computer "Joshua" TicTacToe? Joshua kommt dabei zu der Erkenntnis: "Komisches Spiel - der einzig erfolgversprechende Zug ist, nicht zu spielen". Das Design für diesen Quilt habe ich auf Papier entwickelt - was total ungewöhnlich für mich ist. Irgendwie hat das aber auch mal Spaß gemacht ;-)) Die Kreise und die Kreuze sind hand-gestickt, die Buchstaben sind gemalt, dann mit der Maschine frei gestickt. Gequiltet habe ich hauptsächlich auf den weißen Linien. Das Binding ist aus einem roten Stoff. Und jetzt? Jetzt kann ich's kaum erwarten, meinen Quilt in der Ausstellung zu sehen! Samstag - Mainquiltfestival - ich komme !!

This looks a very challenging quilt Frauke but you have made a great job of it. I had not heard of the movie but I can see how it would have leapt into your mind. I am always interested to see how a title inspires a certain piece of work.

Wow, what an interesting, complex quilt! (I do remember that line in the movie.) I like how you achieved the sense of depth in the quilt, and how you combined the piecing, embroidery and quilting. Also, the progression of the game along with the quote. Great job! You must be thrilled to see it in the show! Congratulations!
